MAJOR PROJECT ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Worldport Los Angeles – PRE provided contract specifications, drawings, and engineering support during construction for the Worldport’s Signalization Project that included the construction of eight (8) control points and dispatch system.  PRE approved all shop drawings and product submittals and assisted the construction management team in negotiating changes.  The project was highly successful with few signal related change orders required.

Tutor-Saliba & AMELCO Electric - PRE has provided design services in conjunction with railroad signal systems on the Alameda Corridor project between Los Angeles and the Port of Los Angeles and the Port of Long Beach.  The project included construction of 21 control points, 5 intermediate signal locations, 18 highway grade crossings, and numerous hazard detectors.  The 17 mile long corridor consists of three main tracks with over 100 power turnouts.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway Company – PRE has provided signal services to BNSF since 1994.  Major projects have included PRE’s selection by BNSF to provide advance planning of signal systems for the Seattle to Tacoma Commuter Rail Project.  The signal construction estimates for this project exceed $65 million and consists of two, three, and four main track signal systems.  PRE provided conceptual drawings, detailed conduit and equipment location drawings, construction estimates, and product specifications. PRE also provided design services for the construction of 12 large control points located between Los Angeles and Norwalk in conjunction with the Alameda Corridor Project.  PRE designed highway grade crossing systems in conjunction with the Placentia Quiet Zone project for BNSF, incorporating the design of 4-Quadrant gate systems, wireless, and “Exit Gate” system technology through the city of Placentia  The project was BNSF’s first to utilize 4-Quadrant gate systems.  PRE has provided numerous additional services to BNSF including training, technical assistance, design services, field surveys, and construction support.

Southern California Regional Rail Authority – PRE has provided signal services to SCRRA since 1995.  Major projects have included the removal of mechanical interlocking towers at Los Angeles Union Passenger Terminal (LAUPT) and Mission.  The new control point that replaced the LAUPT tower now operates more than 130 train movements each day and is controlled from Metrolink’s Central Control Facility (CCF) at Pomona.  The Mission Tower interlocking was separated into nine independent control points all controlled from the CCF.  Additionally PRE has provided design, construction management and oversight, and technical support services on numerous other projects on the Ventura, Valley, San Gabriel, River, and Orange Subdivisions.  PRE maintains signal CADD files for SCRRA and developed signal standards for SCRRA to ensure consistency and quality.  Additionally PRE provides solid-state interlocking application logic software for SCRRA’s control points and interlockings on new projects.

North County Transit District (NCTD) – PRE has provided numerous services for NCTD and Transit America (operator of the Coaster service between Oceanside and San Diego).  Most recently PRE provided contract specifications, drawings, and estimates for the construction of a second main track at False Bay.  Additionally PRE provided contract drawings, specifications, and assisted Amtrak in negotiating a change order to construct two control points in conjunction with the construction of a siding at Lomas Santa Fe.   PRE also maintains all signal CADD files for NCTD and has provided design, design review, and technical support services.  PRE has also developed design and construction standards for the NCTD.

Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board – PRE provided the contract specifications for the entire signal portion of the Ponderosa Project and contract drawings for Redwood City, Menlo Park, Palo Alto Station, and Mountain View Station area.  The project included the upgrading of highway and pedestrian grade crossings, ABS signal system, including the design of electronic coded track circuitry to eliminate existing aerial cable.  PRE also has developed signal design and construction standards for the PCJPB to ensure designs and products are consistent and that only reliable and quality equipment is installed on PCJPB properties.  Additionally PRE provided coordination and communications design for the PCJPB’s new dispatching center in San Jose.
